Our Rotary International district governor Christopher McLucas spoke at Friday's meeting. Awesome speaker, fascinating. Following, club prez Craig Martin presented Chris, a United States Marines veteran with a copy of Common Sense Transition, written by club member Karl Monger.

Alicia L Fleury with Hope Kindness & Community gave a great presentation on challenges facing our community and how HKC has been born to address the challenges.

HKC’s mission is to bring hope and support to the youth of our community and their families through mental health awareness, education and peer mentoring to help prevent bullying and suicide while promoting healthy relationships.

Longtime Metroport Rotary member W. Keith Wood, Founder of the Wood Group at Morgan Stanley, provided a history of social security and strategies for maximizing benefits.  Keith advised not taking benefits early unless needed.  While benefits are not guaranteed to be there when you retire, there's not a current reason to fear they will go away.

Keith began his financial career more than 30 years ago after teaching junior high and high school in several West Texas communities.  His passion for education is still evident in his interactions with clients and their families.
Metroport Rotary's own Karl Monger has written a book!  And you probably thought as a former Army Ranger that any book written by Karl would be all pictures, but this one actually has words - and a couple are more than two syllables!

Karl led today's program with some highlights from his book and issues facing veterans when they exit the military and return to civilian life.  Common Sense Transition is an autobiography and a vision for a better way to help veterans transition.  His book is on sale now on Amazon but its official launch is next Friday, September 22.
James R. Davis, Criminologist and former undercover law enforcement officer presented from his new book, "Decoy 24".  His presentation included some snippets from the book and a whole bunch of color on crime from his long career.  His book is available on Amazon, you won't be disappointed.
